This weekend is one that Mimi and I have been prepping for 25 years. Our son max is marrying Madeline McPherson Saturday. These two have been developing their relationship for the last 5 or 6 years until it lead them to this marriage. They seem like peas in a pod to me, they enjoy the same things and have a fun and caring relationship. We were honored when they asked if the rehearsal dinner could take place in our back yard. We love to be a part of this beautiful melding of families. We have had several events that we had opportunities to meet each others family and we love spending time with her family that also come from the North side. Both of our families are fun and boisterous making for some fun and loud gatherings. I am looking forward to the future as our families get to know each other on deeper levels.
Just over a year ago we all went to Costa Rica for a family trip. Max and Madeline went for a walk down the beach and came back as two lovers now engaged to be married. It was all perfectly done, I have to hand it to them for pulling off such a perfect and romantic engagement on the beautiful beach of the Pacific Ocean.
They soon asked for the yard for the wedding weekend and we just as quickly started studying the calendar to figure what could be blooming for this date. We always plant our yard for fall but we saved some pruning and shaping some of our plants to be looking their very best for right now. The roses will be wide open, the swamp sunflowers are as gold as they can be, the coral vines are showing off like never before.
It has been so much fun playing the bloom game of the existing plants and adding some new color that will make the place incredible. The garden is full of flowering plants that we seeded for this event. We have Lupine, Delphiniums, cosmos, larkspur and foxgloves planted heavily along with all the regular fall blooming plants. We have gone vine crazy and they are in full bloom all over the yard. We have blue Thumbergia covering the entrance of the garden, coral vine is blooming in 3 places , Mexican flame vine covers our arches along with Coral Bean and fire cracker vine. We have sweet peas climbing up our obelisks with Nasturtiums cascading out of all of our garden raised planters.
I guess some people speak their love language with food or some other way, we show them our love with this gorgeous picture that we have painted together. Our whole family had a part in the development of this yard. Max and Mia both spent a lot of their time helping us get this yard started. They were a part of the rock walls that contain our beds, they helped build the garden fence that gives so much opportunity to go vertical with our vines. We have all moved pots around, planting trees, and moving lots of soil around as we created more and more beds around the yard. These were some of our favorite time together as we all love to garden. They have both carried their love of gardening in their lives and their own homes. Madeline loves to garden as well so this will just get more fun.
We are so excited over this event that we can barely contain ourselves. We have friends and family coming in from everywhere for a weekend of celebration and fun.
The big event, the actual wedding, will take place at The Venue in Raymond on Saturday. A beautiful gem hidden in Raymond is the perfect place to tie the knot.
This is a moment that we don’t take lightly and it looks like they are ready to take off on their own and begin to make their own lives and family and I can tell that they are ready to do the work it takes to have a happy life as a family with lots of support from both sides of the family.
Mimi and I wish them the very best and can’t wait to watch the evolution of things as they happen for them as they decide on who they will be as a husband and wife.
